My name is Juan Vazquez and I am a recent B.Arch graduate from Cal Poly Pomona.

Ever since I can remember I have had a passion for the architecture profession. Beginning my studies in architecture at an early age, I first began refining my design and drafting skills when I was ten and discovered CAD and 3D modeling programs. Starting off with software such as Sketchup and AutoCAD, I dove into the design of residential properties in hopes of one day being able to design and build homes for low-income families. Continuing my pursuit of providing better living conditions for all, I grew determined to pursue a degree in architecture while also becoming the first in my family to earn a college degree.

I acquired a strong understanding of the practice of drafting, design, conceptualization, and oral communication during my time at Cal Poly Pomona. I had four of my projects featured in the architecture department’s bi-annual open house, in which only the best work of the semester is displayed. Beyond my work at Cal Poly, I have applied the skills developed through my studies into my professional work in previous and current jobs. Having maintained full-time employment throughout the entirety of my academic career, I have developed the skills to work in high-stress environments while still delivering a high quality of work.

Previous relevant work experience includes a summer internship with design-build firm Spacecraft Group, part / full-time Graphic Design and Scheduling Manager position with event design company Shawna Yamamoto Event Design, part / full-time  Executive Personal Assistant position for a private high profile family, and part-time position as a Designer and Draftsman for Pogany Architecture. While in these positions I successfully demonstrated design, drafting, time management, project management, communication, and logistical skills perfectly suited for a design-build workspace.

As I continue my career as an architect I hope to continue my study in its practice and hope to soon join a firm demonstrating both innovative and forward-thinking designs. In the end, I hope to leave my mark on the built environment by better serving the community through the design and development of new designs and techniques that combine the needs of the community, the needs of the environments, and the needs of my future clients.
